Director of Coaching - Tim Lucas
Tim brings a rich history of experience across a variety of levels and programs, and joins us directly from West Chester United Soccer Club and Penn Fusion in the northeast. Tim is a USSF A licensed coach who has taken seven teams to top 25 national rankings including a number 1 ranked team in 2004. In addition, Tim coached 3 NSCAA high school All Americans, served as a state coach with Virginia ODP, and trained Pre-Academy teams with DC United. At other levels, Tim has coached PDL, DC United Super Y and at the college level with both Marymount University and SJU.
Tim is a trained educator, with a Masters Degree in education. He has carried that over to his soccer passion, and is an instructor for USSF licensing.
Director of Player Development and Recreation - Gordon Bengtson
Gordon joins the JYSC family from Charlotte, NC where he worked for the Carolina Rapids-an MLS affiliated club. Gordon is a USSF B licensed coach who served as the Rapids Youth Academy Associate Director, USSDA Assistant and coached several of their most competitive teams.
Gordon will be overseeing the JYSC Recreational program as well as working with some of FURY teams. As a former scholarship player in the ACC and having spent time overseas in S.S.C Napoli’s academy in Italy as a youth, Gordon is well versed in the developmental path of a player.
Additionally, Gordon still holds several High School scoring records (Goals in a game: 8 – Goals in a season: 62 – Goals in a career 153) He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication with a minor in Sports Marketing from Virginia Tech.
Director of Special Programs - Craig Heseltine
Craig joined JYSC in 2006 as Head of the JYSC Academy. Craig began his coaching career in England before bringing his vast football experience to Florida in 2002.
He had a distinguished 14-year playing career, which included both professional and semi-pro appearances with clubs in England. Craig has coached at all youth and adult age levels, including Bridlington Town Men’s First Team and Tampa Knights. As Team Trainer and Head Trainer of Tampa Knights and JYSC, he successfully coached Boys and Girls teams. Among his teams were finalists and champions of 2011’s Region 111 Premier League and Disney Qualifier. Craig has coached seven teams through to the Sweet Sixteen round of State Cup and the Final Four twice...In 2012 Craig was appointed Assistant Head Coach of the prestigious FC Jax Destroyers Men’s Team.
Craig holds three English FA Coaching Certificates (Level 1, Level 2, Coaching Disabled Performers), USSF National Youth License and NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma.
As Director of Speical Programs, Craig oversees the programs and directives of the Club outside of standard league play. Craig runs the Munchkins United program which is a fundamental introduction of the game of soccer to 3 and 4 year old boys and girls. This program runs 2 times a year. In addition to the Munchkin program, Craig also runs JYSC’s School program. This program is a school year based program that brings the game of soccer into our Pre-K and Elementary schools. Craig also is in charge of our Adult league which runs in the Fall and Winter Seasons.
Developmental Director - Mike Johnson
Mike joined JYSC in 2012 although as a fourteen year old player, Mike helped start JYSC in 1975. He has over 35 years experience in all levels of soccer as a player, coach, director and administrator. From 2004-2011, Mike was Head Coach of Men’s Soccer at Jacksonville University. From 1998-2003, he was Head Coach for Women’s Soccer at Jacksonville University. From 1985-1990, Mike was Director of Coaching for Jacksonville Jaguars. He played professional soccer for Tulsa Tornado USL and was captain and MVP of the Jacksonville University NCAA Div.1 team. Mike is the only coach in Atlantic Sun History to take a Women’s and Men’s team to NCAA College Cup and be named ’Coach of the Year’ in both genders. Mike has coached six Florida State Cup Final-Four teams, including one winner.
Developmental Director - John Mclelland
John joined JYSC in 2007 Boys Head Trainer. In 2008, he was promoted to Technical Director for JYSC Boys. John has played at the highest level of soccer for prestigious teams such as Glasgow Rangers FC, Heart of Midlothian FC and Kilmarnock FC. John has earned 18 caps for Scottish national teams. He has played in over 425 professional matches in the Scottish Premier League, the New Zealand Premier League and the Icelandic League. His coaching experience spans the globe with stints as a Scottish FA Development Officer, a New Zealand FC Regional Development Officer and as Head Coach of UMF Selfoss (a professional team in Iceland), Caversham Otago FC (a professional team in New Zealand) and Cobb FC (Atlanta, GA). In the past three years, John has coached two Sweet Sixteen State Cup teams and one Final 8 team. In 2010 his team finished second in FSL division 1. John holds several Scottish FA Coaching Certificates and the NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma.
